How different corks impact a wine's journey (Part 1).
One thing I wanted to share is how much the type of cork impacts a wine’s journey. Natural cork allows just enough oxygen into the bottle, helping the wine age and develop complexity--like soft tannins and those rich, earthy flavors that come with time. That’s why we stick with it for wines we want to age.
Synthetic corks, though, are airtight. They keep the wine fresh and stable, making them perfect for bottles you plan to drink sooner rather than later. But without that oxygen exchange, the wine stays more or less as it was when you bottled it--no evolution.
Both have their place, and the choice comes down to what you want the wine to do over time.
