My favorite spots for day trips in San Rafael

My favorite spots for day trips in San Rafael

I’ve had some folks ask me some of my favorite spots for day trips in this area (San Rafael/Mendoza). I have plenty more of these, but this is a start.

Valle Grande: A stunning canyon located about 30 km from San Rafael, perfect for outdoor adventures like rafting, hiking, and kayaking, with breathtaking views of the Atuel River.

Cañón del Atuel: This breathtaking canyon offers dramatic rock formations, scenic viewpoints, and water activities. It’s a must-see for nature lovers.

Bodega La Abeja: One of the oldest wineries in San Rafael, it offers guided tours and tastings, showcasing the region’s winemaking tradition. Also good friends of ours (we share grapes).

Los Reyunos: A tranquil reservoir surrounded by mountains, ideal for water sports, fishing, and picnics. There used to be an opera singer that would serenade you in the evenings...

El Nihuil: A vast reservoir and dam, famous for windsurfing, sand dunes, and the expansive desert landscape nearby.

Parque Mariano Moreno: A peaceful park near the city center, great for relaxing walks, with a beautiful lake and playgrounds for families. Also, many great restaurants and cafes in San Rafael (worth their own dedicated posts).

Day trip through Valle de Uco. Beautiful landscapes and incredible wineries. La Azul is one of my favorites. They’re a smaller boutique winery and Ezequiel and his family are incredible.
