Starting a winery has not been easy...

The industry itself is built to push out newcomers. Big wine has figured out distribution, legality, fulfillment, etc. You wouldn't believe how many hoops you need to jump through. I've never seen such a complicated industry, and I'm a medical doctor by trade.

The question people keep asking me is why even start a winery? You're already semi-retired, why not just quietly enjoy the fruits of your labor?
I've been thinking about this a lot over the last year as we've grown the team - and our burn rate. If I had to answer that question with one word it would be this...

Family.

It's in the name of our winery. Familia Morgan.

It's not about legacy in the same way that you would think. I don't care so much about the money, even though that's certainly necessary for the success of this venture. What I really care about is handing something special to my kids and grandkids that they will be able to manage and enjoy for years to come.

Like me, I'm sure you've all come to the same conclusion, a full table over the holidays is worth morethan the biggest deal or payout. Family truly matters, and handing down all of these hard-earned lessons is priceless.

My hope and prayer is that Familia Morgan Wine does just that, not just for me, but for your family as well over a busy dinner table and full glass of wine.
