I had a friend recently ask me why I like Argentina.
Beyond just cheap steak and great wine.
The first thing that came to mind was - the people.
There's just a different culture here that seems to value relationships and time spent together.
There's a term "Sobremesa" which embodies this. It refers to the time spent lingering around the table after a meal, engaging in conversation and enjoying the company of others. Less rush and more quality time.
I think we can all learn from this.
Is it frustrating living in a "siesta culture" at times? Absolutely. Standing in line every time I need cash out of the bank.
But living much of my life building businesses, I've found myself losing sight of the things that matter most. Family. Friends. Good food and experiences.
I watch people here prioritize these things. Is this a generalization? Sure. But I think anyone who comes would struggle to argue they don't notice the same.
There's a reason a true asado takes hours, and it isn't just because of the meat. (Although, it's impossible for me to make an asado with an Argentine present without getting corrected...)
The Argentines have mastered the less hurried life. I'm learning to as well.
Cheers. 🍷
