Ex-cellars
Ex-cellars meaning in wine pricing
Ex-cellars (or ex-cellar) means a wine is priced or sold from the producer’s cellar before downstream costs such as freight, insurance, import duties, taxes, merchant margin, or local delivery are added. In fine-wine and en primeur contexts, it helps distinguish the producer-side price from the buyer’s final landed cost. A wine offered ex-cellars may still become substantially more expensive by the time it reaches a merchant, bonded warehouse, or consumer market. The term is useful for comparing trade pricing, but it is not a quality designation and does not by itself indicate provenance beyond the stated source.
