VDT

VDT meaning in Italian wine

VDT stands for Vino da Tavola, Italian for “table wine.” It is a legacy term for Italy’s basic table-wine category, used for everyday wines with few rules and, historically, for some ambitious wines that did not fit DOC or DOCG regulations. Modern Italian and EU label categories have changed, but VDT remains useful as a historical and trade shorthand. The term does not guarantee low quality; it indicates that the wine was outside stricter appellation categories.
