Pipeño
Pipeño meaning in Chilean wine
Pipeño is a traditional Chilean country wine, usually made from País and other old-vine grapes in the south-central valleys. The name is linked to the pipa, a traditional wooden cask often made from raulí, rather than to clay vessels. Pipeño is typically rustic, light to medium-bodied, and made with minimal intervention by small producers; red, white, and rosé examples exist. Its renewed interest comes from Chile’s País revival, natural-wine producers, and a desire to preserve rural winemaking traditions.
